The Fundación Televisa photographic collection was created at the beginning of the 80’s. Jacques Gellman and Emilio Azcarraga Milmo asked the renowned Mexican photographer Manuel Alvarez Bravo to integrate a collection of international photography to establish the first Photography Museum in México.
The works acquired by Alvarez Bravo are part of the Foundations collection, which sums up to 3500 pieces. Among them there are works by the most important and representative photographers since the beginning of photography in the XIX century, such as Henri Cartier-Breson, Man Ray and Manuel Alvarez Bravo, and pieces by consecrated contemporary photographers such as Cindy Sherman or Joan Fontcuberta, to mention just a few.
The Fundación Televisa´s collection evolves in parallel to new technologies, constantly growing, especially with works by Mexican renowned photographers and young authors. Additionally, we have as our present objective to rescue and preserve family archives, with pieces of high quality that constitute excellent examples, representative of the prevailing traditions and family life in Mexico during various moments of our history.
So conformed, our collection cares for and nourishes its new projects in which research and promotion of photography are priority. To this end, we create constant exhibits, loan pieces and edit publications.
