Goals for Mexico - Cornea transplant

In Fundación Televisa we are convinces that the opportunity of saving a life or being able to improve a persons quality of life is a unique opportunity in which we must participate with all of our potential. Because of this we have developed several programs to promote the organ donation culture, and to procure material and human recourses to accomplish the transplants for those of our children that do not have the monetary recourses to do so: Goals for Mexico (cornea, kidney and bone marrow transplant) and Donamor

Program Objectives:
To improve the quality of life for those children that with a cornea transplant may regain their sight, and so become once again integrated into their activities.

How we help:
For every goal scored by the Tigres de la UANL a sightless child is operated to receive new corneas.

-Fundación Televisa and GNP grant one part of the recourses requires to import the corneas and for the surgery.
- Fundacion Nacional de TrasplantesA.C. procures the corneas and kidneys and has a medical team available 24hrs a day for those people that wish to donate their organs.
-The Hospital Conde de Valenciana and the Instituto Nacional de Trasplantes facilitate their installations for the surgeries and supervise the patient’s evolution.
Fundacion Infantil Ronald Mc Donald A.C. gives the children’s parents economic help to enable them to stay at the hospital during the time of the child’s operation and recovery.
-Tigres de la UANL, score the goals necessary for the program to be put into effect.

Results:
Since 2001, 644 Mexicans have received cornea, kidney or bone marrow transplants.

During 2007, the 60 goals scored by the Pumas and Tigres became 50 kidney transplants and 10 cornea transplants.
