Technology for education
Redondeo (Round up)
Source: Fundación Televisa
Program objectives:
We are very clear on the fact that in our country there is still very wide gap in the education received by its youth, not only in regards to the possibility of obtaining quality education but also in regards to the access to the technological advances required for a docent activity more in accordance with our times. Taking into consideration the need to shorten distances in this road, we try to contribute to elevate education quality and equality of opportunities for students and teachers in primary and junior high public schools.
How we help:
Redondeo (Round up) is a nation wide program that invites consumers to donate their spare change in their supermarket bills in favor of education. It's implemented through the store chains affiliates to the Asociación Nacional de Tiendas Departamentales y de Autoservicio (National Association of Self-services and Departmental Stores) (ANTAD) during the first three month of each year. With the money raised and in a joint effort –ANTAD, Nacional Monte de Piedad, Fundación Televisa, Televisa Deportes, GNP, and the Union de Empresarios for Technology in Education (Unete A.C.) we equip media class rooms in elementary and junior high public schools.
Results since 2006:
In 2008, 348 schools were equipped with media class rooms, and 700 with Internet connection, benefiting 141,000 students all over the country.
