Reading to Dream
Source: Fundación Televisa
In Fundación Televisa we know that reading is one of the most important means to broaden and enrich knowledge and awareness in our children and young adults in an on going permanent fashion. Reading the correct texts helps strengthen the education received at school; it stimulates their imagination and curiosity, offers information on the diverse ways of thinking in the world, not only today, but through out the history of man kind; besides contributing, in consequence, to an integral development of their intelligence and mental capacities.
Program Objectives:
In Fundación Televisa we strive for our childhood and youth to have integral quality education. For this, we have developed diverse programs that complement and enrich their formation. With this in mind, we consider that reading is one of the most direct ways to accede to knowledge in an entreating fashion, allowing them to complement the education received at school. To achieve this we facilitate and promote not only reading, but the use of encyclopedias, dictionaries, manual, etcetera, through the equipment of libraries in primary and junior high public schools.
How we help:
Reading to Dream invites actors and actresses from Televisa, once a week, to become story tellers for children and young adults 4 to 18 years old; they select stories, poetry, novels and other books of interest to them. These events take place in diverse spaces –Public libraries, primary public schools, children’s hospitals and institutions that care for disadvantaged children.
Results:
In 2008, 40 readings were made for the promotion of the reading habit among schools and various institutions.
