Education
Bécalos
Source: Fundación Televisa
Bécalos is a Banks Association and Fundacion Televisa program. It is operated with diverse public and private education institutions in the country. Its objective is to allocate an economic grant, in various modalities, to the education community in our country, aiming to contribute to the development of education in Mexico.
Mision and vision:
We are convinced that through education we increase the beneficiaries life as well as that of their family’s; participating through this program, with our country’s development.
More and better education promotes:
+ Employment
+ Competititivity
- Poverty
+ Equity
- Crime rate
+ Pay (remuneration)
+ State of Law
+ Citizenship
Communities we wish to take care of:
Basic education: From a total of 1,580,035 active teachers, 67% work in primary education (24,304,397 students). Half the students age 15 in Mexico are not very clear about what they are reading, and 2 out of 3 and incapable of using mathematics properly. In contrast with the United States and Europe where the globalization of primary education is at least a century old, Mexico has only achieved this in the last three decades.
Middle High Education: 40% of the population that studies junior high school doesn’t continue studying middle high school. 60% of school desertion in these levels is due to financial difficulties.
Higher Education: Only 20% of young adults in Mexico have access to college.
Projects that integrate the program:
Becalos for students:
A living scholarship helps decrease the desertion levels for students in their middle school years. A support program for low income students with good school grades in middle high education and higher education (college) in public schools.
The postgraduate program is being developed, backed by the CONACYT and other international organisms. When it has been completes we will disclose the information.
Becalos for teachers and principals. Formando Formadores
The objective is to offer training and actualization opportunities for teachers and principals in basic education (preschool, primary and middle schools) in the public sector. Through this they will be able to strengthen their competences and abilities, in two sectors:
