We generate alliances that multiply social and cultural benefits.
Fundación Televisa’s mission is to generate social and cultural development opportunities for as many people as possible, through high quality programs and innovating campaigns; as well as promoting citizen awareness and participation through mass media campaigns.
In the social endeavor, our activity focuses on education, health and nutrition for children and young adults, since we believe that the only way to aspire to a better future for our country is by increasing the number of healthy, educated and well nourish Mexicans. The Foundation also has a housing program, and care of the environment program in which hundreds of volunteers are involved.
These actions are complemented with high impact campaigns that emphasize values. This campaigns aim to fight not only the consequences but the causes of many of the problems ailing our society.
In education, the “Becalos” program has raised $117.94 million pesos through the donations of more then 25 million Mexicans, and with the grants of the participating banks and Fundacion Televisa this program has benefited 85,901 students.
In 2009, 3,400,000 calendars were distributed to all the primary schools in the country, together with 1,100,000 manuals for teachers to help them with practical ideas to live the values inside the school room.
With “Redondeo” (Round up) 2009, 320 media class rooms were equipped; Internet was installed in 700 additional school rooms; benefiting more than 160,000 students in basic and middle public schools around the country.
To promote reading Fundación Televisa has, since 2002, donated 179,700 books to 599 public schools. Through this program 254,525 children have been benefited. Complementing this effort 226 public figures have participated in 345 public readings, with 8,625 children and adults as audience.
At the 8th International Geography Olympic Games the Mexican team won first place. In this competition, held since 2003, there have been more than 817,487 participants. Also, the first History Olympic Game took place, with the participation of 54 students from the 13 states in our country.
For seven years Fundación Televisa has given 2,455,714 nutrition packages for 38,750 children 5 years old or less, who live in 290 rural and indigenous communities, in 7 states of the country.
With the organ donation and transplant program Fundación Televisa and our allies have helped, since 2001, 754 Mexicans that needed a cornea, kidney or bone marrow transplant. In this same spirit, since 2003, 53,803 hearing aids were given.
Through the housing project, the “Alliance Program” successfully built, 2,346 houses in the states of Guanajuato, Michoacan, Hidalgo, Guerrero, Jalisco, Baja California Sur and Tamaulipas. Since 2004 and through “Goals for Mexico” 12,358 houses were constructed in benefit of 61,790 persons.
Efforts in the cultural sector are directed towards making the most outstanding of national and international culture, accessible to as many people as possible.
Through the sponsorship of numerous cultural projects of notable relevance, both in Mexico and abroad; and by informing the public about the most outstanding cultural events in the annual calendar, and inviting them to attend, we have brought art nearer to a great number of people.
Fundacion Telvisa's art collections specialize in visual contents and iconographic memory; during 2007 the Foundation acquired works and collections from different periods of Mexican and Latin-American photography history, and has widely promoted the Foundations art collections both in our country and around the world.
“Lucha libre y Mas” (Wrestling and Beyond) was presented at the George Eastman House in Rochester, New York; and “Juan Guzman: Session with Frida and Diego” at the Mexican Institute in Paris.
Noteworthy projects in this area are: Barrio de La Merced and Barrio de Santa Fe, and the participation in Frida Khalo and Diego Rivera’s National Homage.
In Cultural Promotion, more than 70 events of great relevance were supported. The most important art festivals such as the Festival Internacional Cervantino (International Cervantin Festival) where some of the most important artist in the world have been present during its 38 year history, The FIL Feria Internacional del Libro (International Book Fair) in Guadalajara, dedicated during 2007 to Colombia, with the presence of such important authors as Carlos Fuentes and Gabriel Garcia Marquez, cinema festival such as the Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia (Morelia’s International Cineman Festival), where the Foundation gave the first price for original movie. Through this stream the Foundation strives to increase attendance to the events and promote the creation of new talents.
