Bécalos
In the globalized and competitive world of today it’s become evident that education is the best path to promote social mobility and the distribution of wealth. The adequate performance of a qualified job, technical or professional, presents new opportunities for personal growth and contributes to diminish the contrast between social classes. Besides guaranteeing social stability, it promotes a country’s development and competitively. This is the reason why it’s so important to facilitate the access to education, as well as improving the quality of education services.
Taking all of these factors into consideration and with a social responsibility perspective, in 2006 the Mexican Bank Association (Asociación de Bancos de México), Fundación Televisa and the main banks in the country decided to make a difference and created Bécalos. Its purpose is to help low-income outstanding students, as well as promoting education equity and contributing to the capacitation and continued updating of the faculty body.
Built with a solid infrastructure, Bécalos offers complete cycle scholarships for middle and high school students, academic excellence scholarships as well as scholarships for technical and scientific studies, which are so relevant to national development, and training for faculty members and directives in public schools.
This year 2010, the program exceeds 113,632 beneficiaries, a number that demonstrates its success. But beyond the statistics, Bécalos philosophy is based on a personal accompaniment for each of the scholarship recipients, to understand their needs and see in then an invaluable opportunity for human and social growth. |
